Bonds to 20

WALT know bonds to 20

In maths, we have been learning to find the bonds to 20, looking for the sets of two numbers that make 20. It was tricky at the beginning to know the numbers straight away but it got easier as we used different materials like connecting cubes and counters to figure the problem out.

Number line subtraction

I am learning to use a number line to help solve subtraction problems to 20.

"I can count backwards to work out subtraction problems.  I put the biggest number first.
Sometimes I can do it in my head" said Hadi

Measuring Fun

We were learning to compare similar objects that differ only in length. We were experimenting  with learning to measure with non-standard units.  We were learning to have an accurate starting and finishing point when we measure and use measuring language.

"It is important to count carefully. I think measuring is a bit easy."

Groupings with 5

I am learning to know the sum of 5 and any other number to 5.  I know to start with 5 in my head and count on.   I am able to do this without help from materials.

" I can put 5 in my head and then count on to the number on the dice." said Hadi

Shape Pictures

We are learning to recognise 2d shapes in every day life.

Room 0 have been busy exploring shapes in a range of different ways.  One activity we did was to choose a range of 2d shapes and put them together to create a picture.  By doing this nga tamariki are able to see how shapes can be seen all around us every day.

"I made a house using squares, triangles and circles", said Hadi.

I am learning to add numbers where 5 is one of the numbers

In Maths we have been learning to add numbers when 5 is one of the numbers.  To help us get faster at solving these equations we played a game called "Murtle's Turtles".

"This game was easy because I could remember how to play and I could remember the answers."

I am learning to make sets to 10

In Maths we have been learning to match the right number to the right set of objects.  Hadi had to choose a card and then put the right number of candles on the cake.
